Underwater Fantasy

Inspiration: the sparkling colors and movement under the sea.

Artistic Process: The background is black and then is layered with colored and  dichroic glass in varying depth under clear glass with multiple firings in the kiln to attain the design and depth in this thick glass.

The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape including a slot to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.

*Dichroic glass - Thin layers of metallic oxides, such as titanium, silicon, and magnesium are deposited upon the surface of the glass in a high temperature, vacuum furnace. This creates a brilliant coating on the glass that displays more than one color, especially when viewed from different angles.
