Christine Webster

Christine is a watercolor artist that lives and works in the greater Kansas City area. Originally trained at the University of Central Missouri in art education, she was able to continue her artistic training specifically in watercolor at Adams State University in Taos, New Mexico. Christine views herself as an Artist/Educator. She taught in the Kansas City, Kansas district for over 30 years and continues to teach at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art where she has been for over 36 years.

Many of her paintings are directly inspired by the Nelson Museum’s collections. Other works were developed using her travels in the Southwest, China and Italy. Much of her work done in the Southwest was done Plein Aire. An assortment of flowers from many sources have become the inspiration for many paintings. Her work can be representational or abstract and is vibrant in color and utilizes many layers of transparent paint. She uses a variety of techniques that provide interesting visual effects within her paintings.

Her work has been exhibited in a variety of spaces and owned by several private collectors such as the NCAA. One painted piece was done on fabric and became part of the September 11 Quilt Project. This piece was featured in People Magazine. It is part of a September 11 collection at the Colorado Historical Society.

Christine always refers to painting as “feeding her soul”. She knew from a young age that art would be an important part of her life. She has been fortunate to share art with many people both in her teaching career and by showing her art.
