Maria Martin

Statement

I draw my inspiration from nature, road trip miles, and visits to the Southwest. My paintings are interpretations of travel journeys, about expression and movement.   I work in acrylic and oil paints as well as collage adding a mix of my sketches, smaller painting and photographs and found objects. Texture and surface treatment are important aspects of my work. My ultimate goal is to create a work that engages the viewer, and takes them on a journey. As the artist making the work, the unpredictability and sense of discovery is very exciting and one of the reasons why I do what I do.
